Block Naming System

This system was developed to provide a precise and informative method of block differentiation and meets the WPS requirement concerning location and description of pesticide application sites. The block codes are used for onsite posting, central posting, client billing, FRU workorders, and the NYSAES Farm Maps. Block IDs for all field plots are assigned by the Field Research Unit.

Each block is assigned an 11 character code with 5 distinct sections:

Character number(s)

Code

1+2

Farm (usually first 2 letters of farm name)

3

Splits (for intra-orchard differentiation)

4+5

Block (attempts to reflect any previous name)

6-8

Fruit (self evident abbreviation)

9-11

Project leader (first, middle, last initials)
